Here are some home treatments you might want to try if you are suffering from an ear infection or discomfort related to one:

Warm bath -- Put two cups of salt into a warm bathtub full of water. The warmth of the water will help dissolve the salt and help draw out excess fluid in your ear. Get into the bathtub so that you can allow your ear to be submerged for ten minutes.

Garlic oil -- A home remedy that is used in China is garlic oil, which has natural antibiotic properties that are effective at killing bacteria. Put three cloves of crushed fresh garlic into 250 milliliters of sesame seed oil. Let them boil together for approximately five minutes before putting a cotton ball into the mixture and applying it with perfect accuracy onto the outside of your ear canal only. Let sit for 15 minutes every hour or two.

Onion extract -- Another home remedy in use in China is onion extract, which has anti-inflammatory properties along with antibiotic actions as well. Peel and crush two medium-sized onions into a pulp, then add to 100 milliliters of water. Boil for 15 minutes before cooling the mixture down and straining it. Store in a container with a tight-fitting lid and refrigerate for future use.

Apple cider vinegar -- A home remedy from Russia calls for taking two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, putting them together with one teaspoon of honey, and swallowing all three at the same time. This home cure is said to help unblock your ears by loosening earwax that has become impacted in your ear canals.

Tea tree oil -- Tea tree oil contains antibacterial compounds that will kill off any bacteria in your ear canal and fight against the infection. Pour a few drops of tea tree oil into a small glass bowl and use a dropper to place two or three drops in your ear canal. You can also put half a drop on a cotton ball and swab the inside of your ear with it as well .

Onion juice -- Another home treatment from Russia involves using an onion compress by combining one teaspoon of honey with the juice from half an onion, then heating the mixture until it boils. Soak a clean cloth in this mixture, then apply to your ear as hot as you can stand it without burning yourself. Leave for 30 minutes before removing and allowing your ear to air dry.

Garlic vinegar -- Combine four cloves of chopped garlic with 150 milliliters of rice vinegar, boiling the mixture until it is reduced by half. Drain this mixture and store in a container with a tight-fitting lid. To use, swab around the outside of your ear canal before going to bed at night.

Grapefruit seed extract -- Grapefruit seed extract can reduce pain that you are feeling related to an ear infection while also treating the infection itself. Take one tablespoon three times during the day for no longer than seven days.

Warm compress -- Like warm bath water, warm compresses will loosen wax buildup in your ears so that it can drain more easily on its own or while you are cleaning out your ears with home remedies. Turn on some hot water while removing any makeup from your face. Drench a washcloth in the hot water and hold it up to your face for ten minutes. Take this washcloth, wrap it in a plastic bag, and place it on top of your ear. Keep warm with a heating pad if you have one handy.

Gentle home remedies can help keep all home remedies from being too much work or creating more pain than the original problem caused. To find out about specific home treatments that will best suit your needs, be sure to speak with your doctor before using any home treatment option severe enough to require medical assistance .
